Notes from South Sligo

  • Reading

To mark the 40th Year of the South Sligo Summer School of traditional music, song and dance in Tubbercurry and its enduring legacy of cherishing, protecting and celebrating the unique rich musical environment of South Sligo and the wider county, the idea came about to publish a series of six podcasts to be released on each day of the Festival from Monday 13th July through to Saturday, 18th July 2026.
The idea behind this project is to share memories, music and song from our archives as well as capturing the live ‘on the ground’ atmosphere and sense of community, collaboration and celebration which will be created as the summer school unfolds in Tubbercurry, and to broaden awareness of the ethos to a wider audience, including new communities living within the town and surrounding area. The  six episodes make a tangible and lasting contribution towards strengthening the connections between our traditional artists and the wider community.
