Siarscéal 2026

  • Performance

Siarscéal Literary Festival for young people, in Roscommon, Sligo and Leitrim is now in its fourth year. In collaboration with libraries in three counties, we will continue encouraging young in creative writing in all genres. Four workshops will take place in Roscommon Library and Ballaghaderreen Library, four in Sligo Central Library, and four in Dromahair Library, Co. Leitrim, to support young writers to get started with their ideas, keep going, and turn their creativity into a finished piece for a new publication planned for 2026.

Our workshops are suitable to young people ages 13 to 18 who would like to explore their creativity through writing. Each workshop is two hours, and young people are welcomed to get comfortable, meet each other, and get writing in our Siarsceal journals for 30 to 40 minutes. After that, the young people are invited to share their writing with the group through reading aloud. Positive, encouraging feedback is then provided by the facilitator, and group members. In previous years, an online ezine has been curated by the festival coordinator with the stories, poems and art work contributed by participants. This year, we envision book launches to happen in three counties where the workshops took place, with readings and music by the young writers and friends.
