From Waste to Wonder is a multidisciplinary Creative Climate Action project led by a Kerry-based artist working in collaboration with primary schools, secondary schools, Active Retired groups, and at-risk members of the community. The project uses creativity as a tool to explore Reduce, Reuse, Recycle principles while supporting wellbeing, inclusion, and intergenerational exchange along with introducing the concepts of a circular economy to the community.
The project is delivered through a two-phase programme. Phase One focuses on awareness and engagement, introducing participants to climate action through hands-on creative exploration of everyday waste materials. Phase Two centres on making and collaboration, where participants develop individual and group artworks using reclaimed materials including cardboard, packaging, paint, fabric, and electronic waste.
Workshops are adapted for each group, ranging from playful construction for primary pupils, interactive STEAM-based making for secondary students, memory-led assemblage for Active Retired groups, and trauma-informed creative sessions for at-risk participants.
The project culminates in a free public exhibition at Social Action Group, Rathmore, Co. Kerry bringing together artworks from all groups, supporting reuse and waste prevention in the community, celebrating creativity, climate-conscious thinking, and community connection.
