A Mural for Carrickphierish Library

  • Exhibition

Carrickphierish Library has previously benefited from Creative Ireland artwork, Restoration by Denise McAuliffe, which generated strong engagement from adults and children in the community, highlighting the appetite for further creative activity. This mural will serve as the centrepiece for a programme of community engagement, including a children’s creative writing competition Inspiring your Imagination – What do you think is happening in our Mural? Alongside a launch event and mural inspired workshops and activities such as interactive quizzes. The Mural will be a backdrop that sparks and embeds creative community engagement in Carrickphierish for years to come.

By engaging nationally acclaimed artist Shannon Bergin; an award-winning children’s book illustrator (Best Children’s Book of the Year, An Post Irish Book Awards 2025, Run Home Little Fox, The O’Brien Press) this project aims to make high-quality art accessible to the Carrickphierish community. In response to the area’s lack of natural resources, a Magical Woods theme is proposed for the mural (see attached rough sketch). If funding is granted the artist will include local landmarks such as blackberry bushes, referencing the area’s traditional name, Blackberry Fields. The final design will be subject to approval by the City and County Librarian.
