Carolan Collective on Tour

  • Performance

Building on the success of the 2025 Carolan Collective workshops, this expanded project will bring the music and legacy of Turlough O’Carolan to new audiences across Roscommon in 2026. Through collaborations with the Roscommon Fleadh, the Night & Day Festival, and a June workshop series in St. Ronan’s Hall, Keadue, the initiative aims to spark fresh interest in Carolan’s work and expand local repertoire.

The project will draw inspiration from historic collectors and publishers. One exciting aim is to explore the development of a local Carolan “orchestra,” encouraging ambitious, innovative approaches to the music.

Workshops will begin on the opening day of the Roscommon Fleadh (3 April), introducing young musicians to Carolan’s music. At the Night & Day Festival (29–31 May, Lough Key Forest Park), the Collective will deliver an immersive weekend programme of showcases and hands‑on workshops—such as “Try the Harp” and “Tin Whistle Fundamentals”—open to all ages and abilities. These sessions will be facilitated with support from Music Generation Leitrim tutors and local musicians.

In June, three free workshops in St. Ronan’s Hall will welcome musicians and singers of all ages, instruments and experience levels, including beginners. Family members and local audiences will also be encouraged to attend and participate.

This expanded programme aims to deepen cultural engagement bringing Carolan’s music to life for new generations.
