A Closer Look,

  • Exhibition

A Closer Look is an exhibition by Kilkenny native Máiréad Holohan who has an embedded eco-practice that is directly informed by the artists’ surroundings in the Blackstairs Mountains. Through a routine of walking and looking, she is drawn to the idea of the ‘ruderal’, a plant that is associated with human dwellings or agriculture, or one that evades waste ground. She is specifically interested in the “the things that survive in the cracks” where the local natural environment and the manmade walls of the area meet. This juncture, between the ecological and the human, presents a rich and ancient history that conveys a more-than-human alliance with the flora growing from and adapting to these built remnants.
