Our project, “Roscommon Roots,” is an ambitious 8-week creative program that introduces children and the wider community to the professional art of floral design and botanical illustration. Moving beyond our current weekly art classes, we want to partner with a Professional Florist and a Multimedia Artist to host a series of “living art” workshops.
Participants will explore two distinct creative strands: Floral Architecture: Children will learn the structural and aesthetic principles of flower arranging, using colour theory and form to create large-scale floral installations. Botanical Illustration: Using the flowers as subjects, kids will learn high-level sketching and water colour techniques to document the local flora of North Roscommon.
The project will culminate in a “Community Botanical Exhibition” held at the Centre, where the floral installations and botanical paintings will be displayed for families and neighbors. This will celebrate the creative achievements of our youth and foster a sense of pride and connection within Ballinagare.
