Abbeyleix Celebrates 250 years in 2025

Approximately 140 children from 4th, 5th and 6th, class in both national schools in Abbeyleix, Scoil Mhuire & the South National School will research the history and folklore stories related to the town from the beginning: 1775 to 2025.

The children will work as part of a research team, that will, with encouragement from artist Aileen Donovan, create a piece of original art, using their own initiative and inspiration. Their work will then be incorporated on story trees, which are being created by the Men’s Shed in Abbeyleix.

The finished projects will be exhibited for public viewing in Abbeyleix Library on the day of Cruinniú na nÓg, for all to view and enjoy. This exhibition will also include a video diary which will show the entire process of the children’s work.
