Three short films ‘Asking for It’, ‘All the Same’ and ‘Either Way, it’s Your Choice’ have been made by a young filmmaking group from InSync Youth Services. The group are a mix of young people from across Kildare – some of who originally began to explore the issue of gender based violence in their Comhairle na nOg group in 2022. Following this, some of the group felt strongly that this particular issue needed further development. An original workshop was developed and delivered to a number of professionals, including social workers, Garda and members of the Children and Young People’s Services Committee.
This work further developed into a full six week rape culture programme for young people entitled ‘Asking For It’. This programme was launched on May 22nd and the hope is to train youth workers to deliver to young people across Kildare and West Wicklow. The group have become strong voices for women’s rights issues, attending National Women’s Day marches and working on a joint Shared Island initiative with Active Communities Network in Belfast, where two short films were produced.
For Cruinniú na nÓg the accomplished young filmmakers will make a short presentation followed by the screening of their wonderful films.
