Boyle Arts Festival will partner with Irish National Opera to present an ambitious, large-scale opening event that brings professional opera into a community-led visual movement through the town. In the four days leading up to opening night, children and young people will take part in immersive workshops exploring music, movement and visual design. Guided by professional artists, they will learn and rehearse a chorus from a well-known opera, develop vocal and ensemble skills, choreograph a processional dance inspired by the festival theme Visual Threads, and design costume elements reflecting connection, weaving and interdependence.
The Brothers of Charity will contribute visually by transforming large backpack puppets into vibrant, thread-inspired sculptural forms, adding scale and theatricality to the procession. The Boyle Family Resource Centre Men’s Group will support the creation of large-scale props and structural elements and participate in the visual movement, ensuring meaningful adult involvement. A local community choir will join the children in learning and performing the operatic chorus.
The procession will culminate in the courtyard of King House, where the combined community voices will perform, followed by a surprise pop-up solo from Irish National Opera professionals, creating a powerful dialogue between community participation and artistic excellence
