This Cruinniú na nÓg, Garter Lane Arts Centre will team up with BLAST from Michael St. to bring new energy to young people’s wardrobes with a DIY ethos, bold prints and experimental fashion. This collaboration will consist of two events plus the Cruinniú na nÓg Fashion Finale. The first workshop will feature a second-hand clothes swap & fashion design event, whilst the other will be an upcycling event. Both workshops are for teenagers aged 13-18.
The workshops, run by BLAST alongside Garter Lane staff, will be held in our centrally located Rehearsal space in Garter Lane Arts Centre. The workshops will focus on sketching, fabric samples and gathering materials, the upcycling process, sewing, screen printing, fabric painting, adding buttons/buckles etc. and changing the silhouette of clothes.
The purchasing of the clothes will operate under a voucher style system in conjunction with the three local charity shops in the WCQ in keeping with inclusivity and the circular economy ethos. The culmination of the two days of workshops will be a catwalk event so participants can demonstrate the design and skills that they have acquired, to their peers and friends, over the course of the two workshops.
