Finding Common Ground: A Collaborative Mural Exploring the Heritage, People, and Heart of Athleague.

  • Workshop

Finding Common Ground is a collaborative mural project led by artist Shane O’Malley, created for Athleague Community Centre. Rooted in themes of home, heritage, and connection, the project explores the landscape and people of Athleague—its agricultural traditions, hurling culture, and strong community spirit.

Beginning with a community workshop, participants will reflect on their relationship to place while contributing ideas, marks, and colours that inform the final design. The mural will be painted through a blend of community involvement and professional execution, resulting in a vibrant, contemporary artwork that reflects Athleague’s identity and pride of place.

Positioned on the gable end of the Community Centre along the Roscommon–Galway road, the mural will act as a prominent visual landmark. The process will be documented through video and photography, celebrating local creativity and extending the project’s reach beyond the village.
