Loud at the Library: Composing with Vibration

  • Workshop

Composing with vibration, an introduction to music for deaf children Jane Hackett and Olivier Dietrich will facilitate workshops for Cruinniú at Lucan Library during each workshop, the children will be introduced to elements of music composition; such as dynamics, phrasing and rhythm and through live violin-playing, vibrational patterns from subwoofer speaker/violin and movement, Olivier and Jane will lead the children on an exploratory music journey.

The workshop will open with a demonstrative and performative overview from both facilitators, combining physical movement with live violin-playing. Each exploratory musical ‘station’ will have particular tactile and sensory elements for the children to feel the music through.

These specialised workshops have been created specifically for deaf children and children of deaf adults and there will be an ISL interpreter present for the workshops.
