Lú’s Lantern combines creative empowerment, climate awareness, and community celebration through photography and sculpture. Working with artist Julie Corcoran, members of the Turas community group will use the PhotoVoice approach to document daily experiences on film cameras and explore analogue processing, including optional plant-based developers. Participants co-curate their images and discuss shared themes, building creative confidence, connection, and civic voice.
The project reflects Creative Ireland’s Climate Action goals through eco-conscious materials, willow, light, and low-toxicity chemistry, linking sustainability with self-expression. Guided by artist, Tom Meskell in practical learning in renewable and low-impact sculpture, participants will transform personal stories into shared celebration.
A willow-framed lantern sculpture illuminated by community-chosen photographs will be unveiled in the Autumn, creating a lasting public artwork for Louth that affirms local pride, creative agency, and environmental responsibility.
