Stories of First Memories from the People of Roscommon, Told by Young Carers

A creative, youth‑led storytelling project that brings together young carers and influential figures from across County Roscommon to capture and celebrate personal memories, sense of place, and community connection. Inspired by the idea that our earliest memories shape who we become, young carers will interview respected local figures using reflective, memory‑based questions about growing up in Roscommon.

Participants will be involved at every stage of the project, from planning and conducting interviews to shaping the stories and responding creatively through art. The collected memories will be developed into a professionally presented illustrated book, with each story accompanied by original artwork created by the young carers.

The project builds skills in communication, interviewing, creative writing, and illustration, while empowering young carers to have their voices heard in a supportive and inclusive environment. Building on previous Creative Roscommon‑supported projects, this initiative strengthens confidence, fosters pride and belonging, and preserves personal stories connected to Roscommon’s social and cultural heritage for future generations.
