Make a Spinner Toy/Whirlygig

This S.T.E.A.M. workshop for ages 6-12 primarily explores motion, speed, dexterity and co-ordination. However, participants will also learn about “Frugal Science” where researchers from Stanford University took this simple toy and made it a cheaper than $1 centrifuge! 

Participants will use simple materials to make a toy that will spin, hum and spin much faster than a standard centrifuge. Centrifuges spin at about 15,000rpm, bicycle wheels about 100rpm and car wheels about 1500rpm! This Whirlygig can spin at a hugely impressive 50,000rpm!

Booking is required, as spaces are limited.
