Megan the Mermaid

  • Workshop

The primary aim of the workshop is to empower children to explore their creativity and express themselves through various mediums. By focusing on “Megan the Mermaid,” participants will immerse themselves in the poem’s themes, using it as a springboard to create a multi-sensory experience. The workshop will provide opportunities for the children to experiment with prop making, movement, sound, acting for the camera, and various camera techniques.

In the wake of the recent passing of Pat Ingoldsby, a beloved Irish poet, playwright, and TV presenter from the 80s and 90s, this workshop seeks to honor his legacy in a meaningful and creative way. This workshop is designed for children aged 9-12 focusing on the creation of a contemporary short film based on Ingoldsby’s poem “Megan the Mermaid.” The poem captures the magic, imagination, and longing for possibility—a theme that resonates deeply, especially given Pat’s recent transition.

The workshop will take place in Milltown Malbay Community Hall on June 7th from 10am to 3pm.
