In this project we will interview men and women who have worked in various industries in Tipperary Town down the years. Their stories of working conditions, pay and social activities will record this very important aspect of the towns history. Kiely’s seven up, Atari, Tambrands and Tipperary Co-op were all places where the towns workforce found employment. This project promises to generate a lot of interest amongst former employees who recall with nostalgia their working lives in various industries, indeed some working in a variety of roles in different factories. The project will also feature an exhibition of photographs associated with that industrial era and it is intended to have an intergenerational workshop exploring work places then and now.
Dr. Denis G.Marnane local author and historian will do an introduction to this oral history project and has recently published a booklet on “Aspects of Tipperary Towns industrial development” a very informative publication tracing the towns industries and importance for the economic life of the town.
