The Cobby House Café

  • Award/Grants Scheme

What would a café designed by children look like? What would it grow, make and share with the community? The Cobby House Café is a new Creative Ireland Tipperary community arts project led by visual artist and printmaker Aoife Barrett in collaboration with Clonoulty National School and the Printmakers’ Garden Youth Club.  It brings together children, artists and local partners to imagine a child-led social space and creative printmaking hub for the future.

From March to September 2026, children from Clonoulty N.S. and members of the Printmakers’ Garden Youth Club will work with artists through a series of hands-on workshops. These sessions will take place between the Clonoulty Community Hall, our new pop-up event space ‘Bean Together’ and at the Clonoulty Community Garden.

Children will explore local food systems, slow making and the environment through traditional crafts such as letterpress printmaking, ceramics and textiles. They will design objects, menus and spaces. Together they will imagine a real community garden café shaped by young voices.

The project asks simple questions: How can we use less? How can we make things last longer? How can children help shape rural life in the future?
