The Legacy of Pat and Pete McKenna Music Workshops

Workshop

Rooted in fiddle, pipes and button accordion traditions, the workshops will place children’s creativity at the centre of the experience. Through stories, archive recordings and shared listening, participants will discover the sounds and spirit of North Monaghan’s rich musical heritage. Participants will be encouraged not just to learn the McKenna family repertoire, but to play with it — reimagining tunes, experimenting with sound, and responding creatively to the stories behind the music. With freedom to explore and express their own ideas, young musicians will develop a personal connection to the material and bring fresh, youthful energy to these treasured traditions.

These workshops are suitable for young people age 7 to 14 years.
