Threads of Place- Athlone Arts and Tourism Community Project

  • Performance

Threads of Place is a community-focused visual arts project that brings together contemporary visual arts practice and Athlone’s rich cultural and social heritage through a series of interconnected drawing-based activities across multiple sites. The project will culminate in a public group exhibition.

Inspired by the contemporary visual art exhibition Divergent Lines at Luan Gallery, it connects key moments in the town’s history—from the Siege of Athlone to the early twentieth century—while engaging with the layered histories of the former Athlone Workhouse and the Franciscan Abbey. This project aims to widen access to visual arts and local heritage, support inclusive participation, and encourage creative engagement with Athlone’s place-based histories. By interweaving contemporary drawing practice with historical narratives, it fosters social connection, learning, and well-being through shared creative activity.
