Windows of Imagination: Exploring Art and Heritage

As part of Cruinniú na nÓg 2025, St. Canice’s Cathedral in Kilkenny will host a unique series of creative workshops for 6th class students from St. Canice’s Co-Ed Primary School.  Led by visual artist Lucia Parle, the workshops will invite young participants to explore the rich history and artistry of the Cathedral’s stained-glass windows—some of which date back to the 1800s and include pieces from the highly-regarded Harry Clarke Studio.

With over two decades of experience delivering community-based creative projects, Lucia will guide students in learning about the craftsmanship, stories and techniques behind the stained-glass. Drawing inspiration from these heritage treasures, the children will respond through their own artwork, experimenting with colour, line and stained-glass-inspired styles.

This programme not only nurtures imagination and collaboration, but also encourages a deeper connection with Kilkenny’s cultural heritage. The project will culminate in a public exhibition of the children’s work on Saturday, 7th June 2025, within the Cathedral itself—a celebration of creativity, community and shared history.
