Louth Ambassador – Grace Gonnelly

  • Programme of events

My name is Grace and I’m a Dundalk YouthReach student. I joined MAD Youth theatre when I was 12 and I’ve loved it ever since.

My earliest memory of creativity is when I was 8 and I played Annie in the school play.

My favourit creative activity was dance however I was diagnosed with chronic pain when I was 10 so I had to give it up. I joined MAD youth theatre in 2020 which was way more accessible for me. When I’m being creative I feel free! I love having the freedom to learn by doing, especially with filmmaking.

This year I won the RTÉ factual award at the Fresh International Film Festival for my film “Cliff Edge”.

My advice to young people who want to be creative is just do it, after all, what’s the worst that could happen!

I think Cruinniú na nÓg 2025 is a great opportunity for more young people to be able to express themselves through any art form, in an easy, accessible way.
