As part of the Shared Island Initiative, The Duncairn Arts Centre is proud to collaborate on a unique cross-community music project.
Three exceptional emerging musicians—recent recipients of the TG4 Gradam Ceoil Bursary—will join members of the Duncairn Trad Collective to lead a series of traditional music workshops. These sessions will offer young aspiring traditional musicians in the Duncairn the chance to learn, collaborate, and grow in a creative environment. The workshops will culminate in a free, family-friendly concert on Saturday, 7th June, celebrating traditional music in an inclusive atmosphere. Children of all ages, from babies to teens, will have the opportunity to experience top-quality live music in a welcoming setting.
At the same time, in Levis’ of Ballydehob, local musicians will work with a group of young people from West Cork in preparation for their own Cruinniú na nÓg concert, also taking place on 7th June. This event will offer a fun and social musical experience in one of Ireland’s most beloved venues.
Following these parallel events, the two groups of young musicians will begin a virtual collaboration—connecting, sharing, and rehearsing together. In July, the Belfast participants will travel to West Cork to meet their Ballydehob counterparts in person, culminating in a joint afternoon performance at Levis’.
This project is supported by Creative Ireland and Cork County Council.
