Two-Day Eco-Friendly Puppet-Making & Storytelling Workshop, i mBearlá agus i nGaeilge, le Pól Penrose agus Leanne McLaughlin.
Inspired by the Irish Folktale of Inis Bó Finne, Bringing Legends to Life with Recycled & Found materials. This immersive workshop invites children to explore creativity, culture and self-expression, through the art of puppet theatre. Inspired by the legend of the White Cow of Inis Bó Finne, students will work together to build a cardboard theatre and craft all the characters from this rich Donegal folklore.
Throughout the workshop, participants will develop puppetry skills, designing and decorating their own puppets, while learning about storytelling, movement and performance. Guided by experienced artists, they will work on scripting their own adaptation of the White Cow story, bringing it to life with voice, gesture and imagination.
This project is an opportunity for children to connect with culture and heritage, learn the value of collaboration, and develop confidence in their creative abilities. By engaging in hands-on making and performance, they will experience the power of folklore as a living tradition, not just a story from the past.
The final performance will be recorded and documented, serving as a valuable folklore resource and a celebration of the students’ work. Through this experience, children will gain a deeper appreciation for storytelling, theatre and feel impowered by the magic of their own creativity.
