From Seed to Vase

  • Climate Change

From Seed to Vase is an eco‑social art residency that brings together contemporary socially engaged art, ecological education, and everyday beauty. Led by a flower farmer and practitioner, the residency will take place across six Westmeath library branches, transforming each library into a temporary site of conversation, exchange, and sensory engagement.

Fresh, locally grown flowers become both the medium and the message. Through public engagement sessions, informal conversations, displays, and participatory activities, the practitioner will invite library users to reflect on the hidden systems behind flowers, from global supply chains to soil microbes, and to imagine more sustainable, local, and biodiverse futures. Participants may leave with flowers, seeds, or young plants, extending the artwork beyond the library and into homes, gardens, balconies, and community spaces.

Flowers can be the vehicle for transmitting emotion at key life stages. In this residency they open conversations, carry stories, and create moments of pause within public space. As a flower farmer, the practitioner occupies a unique position between agriculture, ecology, and aesthetics. This dual role allows for an embodied and credible engagement with complex topics such as biodiversity loss, pollinator decline, soil health, and the environmental cost of the global flower industry.
