The project will consist of three separate hand-on creative workshops with the primary school children in Scoil Mhuire, Loughegar in Co.Westmeath. The children will explore the geography of their rural landscape and the positive aspects of living in the area and/or going to a country primary school.
The workshops offered as part of the Cruinniú na nÓG project will involve three class groups, each focusing on one creative activity.
The Land Art workshop will be a group activity where the younger age group will create a circular figure representing their world using natural materials found in their environment. Together, they will design the circular pattern with an emphasis on shapes, symmetry and colour.
The Map My World workshop will be an individual activity where each participant will draw a map of their world using a media of their choice. This activity will promote their sense of identity while helping them to better understand their environment and the concept of mapping.
The Memory Box workshop will be an individual activity where the older children will create a lidded box and personalise it. They will decide on what items to put in their box so that their future self can discover these special personal time capsules.
