Illuminated Futures: Reimagining the Red Book of Ossory through making. As part of Cruinniú na nÓg 2026, St. Canice’s Cathedral will present a distinctive programme of creative workshops for 6th class pupils from St. Canice’s Co-Ed Primary School. Facilitated by cross-disciplinary artist Mary Conroy, the sessions will engage students in an exploration of the model of the Red Book of Ossory, originally compiled in the 14th century by Bishop Richard Ledrede.

Under Mary’s guidance, the children will experiment with a number of elements of book making, such as paper making, natural ink experimentation and the process of sowing a book spine. The course will culminate in an exhibition of the children’s work on Cruinniú na nÓg on Saturday 6th June 2026 at St Canice’s Cathedral. This programme not only nurtures creativity and collaboration, but also encourages a deeper connection with Kilkenny’s cultural heritage.
