Little Makers-Wooden Toy Workshop.
As part of Cruinniú na nÓg 2026, Little Makers-Wooden Toy Workshop is a hands-on wooden toy-making adventure designed to spark imagination, creativity, and a love of real making. This lively 1.5-hour workshop invites young makers to step away from plastic and screens and into the wonderfully tactile world of traditional woodworking.
Children will shape, sand, assemble, and personalise their own simple wooden toy using old-style woodworking techniques adapted safely for young hands. Along the way, they’ll discover how toys were once made to last for generations. Using sustainably sourced, locally grown timber, the workshop connects children to heritage craft, natural materials, and the joy of creating something sturdy and unique with their own hands.
The atmosphere will be playful, curious, and full of invention. Young participants can decorate and bring character to their creations, invent stories about them, and leave with not just a toy—but a keepsake built from real wood, made by them. It’s about slowing down, making something meaningful, and celebrating creativity in its most hands-on form.
*All activities will take place at both Cashel and Thurles Libraries with exact times tbc closer to the time*
